What are the details of teeth whitening?

It’s safe, quick, and inexpensive. Just let us know at any appointment if you would like to whiten your teeth. In as little as two weeks time, you can see amazing results!  Please discuss with the dental team how bleaching may or may not affect various existing restorations.

In about two weeks your custom bleach splints will be ready for you to pick up. We provide you with a special KoR bleaching agent that you put into the clear splints. There are different KoR systems.  Our staff will be happy to help you decide which one is right for you!!

Dental bleaching can be used to correct tooth discoloration. Discolorations can be caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in bleaching technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a beautiful “brilliant” smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be the only choice, but because of the low cost of bleaching treatments, bleaching is nearly always worth a solid try.

In-Office Bleaching System

Our choice for in-office bleaching is KoR Whitening Deep Bleaching.  It is chemically activated, requiring no light.  Typically 1-2 visits are required after completing a 2 week take-home  kit.  The visits are about 1 hour in length.

Our clinician will isolate the teeth with a protective barrier and apply the bleaching agent.  It remains in contact with the teeth 20-30 minutes.  It is then removed and reapplied for an additional 20-30 minutes.

Unlike other bleaching systems, patients have almost no sensitivity during their treatment. KoR systems have a desensitizing agent in the gel that combats the typical sensitivity that some patients may experience. 

How is teeth whitening done with KoR take-home trays?

An impression is taken to make a specialized “mouthguard” or “stent” to hold the bleach against the teeth. The material is used each night while you sleep for 2 weeks. In some cases, the change is nothing short of brilliant!  You can bleach up to 16 shades brighter with this system!! For confidence in appearance, bleaching technology allows us to promise improvements in yellowing, aging or stained teeth. For very severely stained teeth, crowns or porcelain veneers may be more appropriate.

Considerations for Teeth Whitening

Over-the-counter bleaching agents are available for purchase at drug stores and pharmacies. However, may have limitations based on the fullness of your smile.  Not all over-the-counter products fit each individual smile the same!

One system may not be appropriate for everyone.  For those who may not be able to do the overnight trays, we offer an alternate take home system.  Opalesence Go! is worn for 15-30 minutes for 10 days.
